Program Overview

A 36-month clinical training program preparing the next generation of endodontic specialists.

The Program Structure

A thirty-six month clinical residency.

The Kuwait Board of Endodontics is a 36-month program. Applicants can enroll in the program after successfully completing the R2 examination of the Kuwait Board of Dentistry. Applicants with equivalent degrees must consult KIMS before applying to the program.

KBE is based in the Specialized Dental Center in Salmiya, equipped with 9 available chairs for residents and staff. The program accepts 3 residents per year, and the application cycle is announced through the KIMS website. All applicants must adhere to the rules and regulations of the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialties (KIMS).

KBE commences with a specially designed basic sciences course in collaboration with the Dental Faculty at Kuwait University. Residents will review 10–12 basic sciences topics such as Head and neck anatomy, Embryology, Microbiology, Oral Pathology, Radiology, Dental Materials, Biostatistics, and Oral Medicine. All topics will be assessed via a final examination.

Academic Year

Three rotations.

Residents are evaluated each rotation to comply with KIMS rules.

Fall Rotation

October → December

First year residents begin orientation and basic sciences.

Spring Rotation

January → May

Clinical sessions begin for all residents.

Summer Rotation

June → September

Continued clinical training and evaluations.

Clinical sessions run all year round, except for first year residents who start clinics in January.

Learning Components

Literature & Advanced Courses

Literature Review

Current and classic literature review will run from January to the end of July each academic year and residents are required to attend all sessions.

Advanced Endodontic Courses

Conducted during first, second and third year. Topics include: Surgical Endodontics, Retreatment, Pulp Biology, Orofacial pain, trauma, case presentations, and topic discussions.

Final Milestone

Kuwait Board of Endodontics Examination

At the end of 3rd year, residents who completed all requirements and passed all required courses will be eligible to sit for the Kuwait Board of Endodontics Exam. The exam is set in two sections: written and oral examination. Upon successful completion, residents will be awarded the Specialty Degree in Endodontics.
