surgical endodontics

Course Description

Surgical Endodontics became an essential part of Modern Endodontic Practice. This course is designed to provide comprehensive lecture series and hands-on training to cover all aspects of Surgical Endodontics including Apicoectomy, Intentional replantation, Root amputation, Hemisection, Autotransplantation and Resorption Surgical Repair. This course also includes a basic course for Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and how to use it to evaluate, diagnose and treatment plan complicated clinical situations.

Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of the course: Residents will be able to carry out the following:


  • Understanding how to evaluate and treatment plan a complicated endodontic failures.
  • Be able to read CBCT radiographs and know it’s limitations.
  • Understand the indications and contraindications of each surgical procedure.
  • Understand the basics of how to perform Apicoectomy including flap design, osteotomy, root resection, root end preparation, root end filling and sutures.
  • Understand the biology and healing process of soft and hard tissues.
  • Understand how to manage common complications during surgery.
  • Understand the rationale behind Intentional Replantation. 
  • Understand how to perform Root amputation and Hemisection. 
  • Understand the basics of Resorption Surgical Repair.
  • Understand the possible side effects of each procedure.
  • Understand the outcome of each procedure.
